Activity - What To Do Now That The Baby Shower Is Over

By Rachel Lacourciere, edHelperBaby

What To Do Now That The Baby Shower Is Over
As much work as it may have been to get your baby registry just right and then have your family or friends host a wonderful baby shower for you, you will still find you are left with a few details once the party is over.  These tasks you and your partner will ideally want to complete or have nearly done before the arrival of your newest family addition.  Once your baby is here, you will have enough on your hands caring for him or her without having to worry about the residual tasks from your baby shower.

  Get Organized
The first thing you will want to do after your baby shower is sit down and evaluate everything you received.  Consider placing the gifts in two separate sections of the baby's nursery: one section for those gifts you want to keep and one section for those gifts you want to return or exchange.  Additionally, make a list of items you still would like to purchase on your own or exchange for something you received but do not want to keep.

  Thank You Cards
Another top priority is taking the time to thank everyone who bought a gift for you and your baby.  Proper etiquette suggests that you send your thank you cards within one to two weeks after your baby shower.  The gifts are freshest in your mind then and thoughts are ideally not blurred as they may be once your baby arrives!  There are many options for acquiring thank you cards.  You can create your own thank you cards, purchase them from a local store, or even buy them online.

  Laundry
Many women receive baby clothes and layettes from several people at their baby showers.  While adorable to look at and imagine your new baby wearing, it is important that all clothes be washed before your baby wears them for the first time.  Some women are even fortunate enough to receive a mild baby detergent as a gift at their shower.  However, if you are not one of these lucky women, many doctors suggest using a fragrance free detergent which is often less expensive than the advertised baby detergents currently marketed.  You will likely appreciate the time you spent washing and organizing the clothes once your baby arrives, as you may find you change your baby's outfit more often until the diaper changes and spit-up incidents dwindle!

  Assembly Required
Additionally, you and/or your partner will likely want to assemble any furniture, baby gear, and toys you received prior to the arrival of your baby.  Obviously, having everything put together ahead of time will give you the option of being able to use the items when they become necessary.   Plus it can be a lot of fun and add to the excitement of the situation to have the items out and ready for use.  If you are pressed for time and do not think you will be able to get everything together in time, try prioritizing the gifts and assembling only what is immediately necessary.  For example, you will probably use the swing before the high chair or use the bassinet before the crib.
