Attack of the Baby Superstore

           Attack of the Baby Superstore

Pacing yourself when you are shopping for baby.

Big chain baby superstores are super-convenient, but they can also be super-overwhelming. You need to know how to navigate them - here are some tips for making the trip easier:

Go on a mid-week evening when the aisles will be less jammed.

If a store is having a sale this is the best time to get a great deal on all the items you need without the crowd of people. Try to choose a time of day that is when most people are just getting home from work or eating dinner. This will increase your chances of the lines being shorter.

Don't go alone; make sure your hubby's along for the ride, too. Believe it or not but most husbands love to go along. My husband has had more fun shopping for our son than I have. You can give your hubby his own list of items that you think would interest him. I would trust my husband to pick out anything electronic because he knows all about the quality of certain brands and would not just choose the cheapest one to save money like I would.

Stay focused - Take a list of the list of things that you need to buy. I would wait until you have had all of your baby showers and then make an assessment about what you need or need to exchange, but keep it short. You don't have to do everything in one trip. When compiling the list try to categorize the items to make shopping in each department easier. This always works for the supermarket so why not try it here.

Find the most helpful store clerk - and take full advantage of him. Ask all of your questions. Make him show you how things work. Let him compare for you (this stroller has a full-recline, but this one weighs only twelve pounds and can accommodate your car seat on top).  Most clerks will hide but there is always one or two who are knowledgeable and friendly. Make sure when you leave to mention their name to the customer service desk. Give him or her some props for helping get to the bottom of the stroller mystery.

When you need a rest, head over to the gliders, sit down, put your feet up, and take a breather before you go back for round two. The furniture section is the best area of the store for tired legs and back. I strongly recommend taking a break to regroup and rest before finding those last items on your list. This is also a great place to meet up with your hubby if he is checking out monitors in another department.

Have fun on your journey and take your time. When you return home you will have a great feeling of accomplishment. As you are stocking the nursery you can run out for any last minute items. Taking your time will relieve your stress as you head toward the main goal of bringing baby home.
