Be My Valentine

By Melanie Fleury, edHelperBaby

Introduction
Depending upon the age of your toddler, you may or may not have noticed that he is still talking about the holidays that passed. I know that in my house, Santa Claus is still a daily discussion with my 2 1/2 year old. Your toddler is at the age where he is starting to remember family routines and traditions and can participate. You can help your toddler make a wonderful Valentine‘s gift for the ones he loves.

Homemade Valentine Gifts
Many metropolitan areas have plenty of "paint your own pottery" type of stores. A really cute idea would be to make a heart shaped piece of pottery with your toddler's hand print on it. However, if your local pottery store is not accessible, there are great Valentine gift ideas that can be accomplished.  Here are just a few that your toddler can do.

Toddler Handprint Place Mat
With just piece of construction paper, paint, and your local office supply store, you can make a great durable place mat that will make you smile each time you use it. Paint your toddler‘s hand and place it firmly on a piece of construction paper. You can also decorate with name and date of your toddler. Take it to your local office store to laminate. Voila! Instant placemat!! Make a set  with enough for the whole family to use.

  Stepping Stone
There are pre-made kits for this, but doing it from scratch is much more economical and does not take too much extra time . You can go to your local craft store and purchase some plaster of Paris. They also sell small rocks, polished stones, etc. Mix the plaster and have your toddler press in her choices of items into the plaster. Shape it into the desired form. Let dry. You will have a perfect handmade stepping stone for your garden. For an added touch, add a handprint to the stone and mark with name and date.

Picture Fun
Have lots of pics that you want to showcase? A great idea is to make a calendar with each month showcasing a great pic of your toddler! You can do it yourself with printable calendars and pics, or some online picture processors offer the option to do it for you.

Conclusion
Your child will love to work on these or any other activities with you. The most important thing is to make the memories with your child. These memories will be the ones your child will treasure.
