       A handy checklist to help you remember the essentials.       

       When the time comes to go to the hospital, every mom wants to be prepared. The last thing you want to worry about is whether you you've forgotten baby's homecoming outfit or snacks for Dad. Save this list of items you don't want to leave home without -- and even add a few of your own.       

       For Mom
  • Comfortable robe
  • Night gown
  • Nursing bra or nursing pads
  • Warm socks
  • Slippers
  • Comfortable outfit you can wear home (a fun idea is to wear pink or blue according to the sex of the baby)
  • Sanitary pads
  • Toiletries such as shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, moisturizer, lip balm
  • Hair clips
  • Brush or comb
  • Toothbrush and toothpaste

       For Your Labor Partner
  • Change of clothes
  • Books and magazines
  • Toothbrush, toothpaste and other toiletries
  • At least $20 in cash and change for snacks and so forth
  • Snacks or soft drinks in a small cooler
  • Watch with a second hand for timing contractions

       For Baby
  • Car Seat
  • Newborn hat
  • 2 receiving blankets
  • 2 "onesies"
  • 2 pairs of socks
  • Outfit for picture
  • Going home outfit
  • Diapers and diaper bag
       

       Documents
  • Birth Plan
  • Insurance card
  • Address book or list of family and friends to call
  • Birth announcements and stamps (optional)

       Extras
  • Electric heating massager
  • Massage oil
  • Personal stereo/ iPod
  • Books and magazines
  • Camera and video camera ( you may want to train other family members to use the cameras so they can take pictures of you with your partner and new baby)
  • Extra pillow
  • Gift for sibling - This is very important!!
  • Hard Candy to suck on during labor
  • Lanolin if you are nursing
  • Cell phone
