Creating a Picture Diary of your Pregnant Body

By Rachel Lacourciere, edHelperBaby

Creating A Picture Diary Of Your Pregnant Body
A wonderful way to chronicle your pregnancy is by keeping a picture diary throughout the entire nine months.  It will give you something to always look back on and is a great way to start an album for your baby to enjoy as he grows older.  This is a relatively easy project to begin right away and continue as your belly grows!

  Things To Consider Beforehand
Once you have decided to begin the picture diary, you may want to keep in mind the following tips:
  • Decide at what intervals you would like your pictures taken - monthly, bi-weekly, or weekly.  You may find it makes more sense to stretch the intervals longer on a monthly basis in the beginning of your pregnancy and shorten the intervals to weekly as you enter your third trimester and tend to grow faster.
  • Choose a pose that you not only like of yourself now but will ideally like when you are in your third trimester as well.  If this is your first pregnancy, it is hard to envision what you will look like several months from now. Try to pick a pose that will not accentuate any additional weight you may gain in your face, arms, or butt.
  • Try picking an outfit that you can consistently wear for each picture.  It will create a more dramatic effect if everything stays the same in the picture, except for your expanding belly.
  • Consider whether or not you want your belly fully exposed or if you prefer to keep it covered by a shirt in the picture. It may not seem important at first, but what if you end up with stretch marks?  Will you want those preserved in your picture diary as well?
  • Think about taking a picture of yourself before any sonogram appointments you may have.  Then make sure you add these pictures as well as your sonogram pictures to your picture diary.  This is a nice way to give both the "inside" and "outside" perspectives of your baby at one time.
  • Keep a sense of humor!  The truth is at some point you may not feel like taking pictures of yourself anymore, but keep in mind how exciting it will be for your child to look back on as he watches himself grow inside you!

  Get Creative
There are various ways to spice up your picture diary with any of the following ideas or by coming up with your own creative thinking!
  • Use a tape measure and display your current waist size for the picture each time.
  • Write your waist size, the current date, or any other information each time on your belly (if you decide to expose it) with bath soap crayons that easily wash off.
  • Write an emotion or feeling describing how you have felt recently on a handheld chalkboard and include it in the picture each time.
  • Buy one of your child's first stuffed animals or toys and include it in the picture each time.
  • Towards the end of your pregnancy if you can identify a body part of your baby pushing through, write it on a handheld chalkboard and point to it for the picture.
