The Stage At This Age |
Your 6-month-old is learning so much. One developmental milestone at this age is that he is starting to understand the idea of object permanence. That means that he understands that he doesn't need to see an item to know it is there. This activity is a great way to develop this knowledge. |
Activity: |
Definitely a tried and true, most people have played peek-a-boo with their babies. The original peek-a-boo, hiding behind your hands and then yelling BOO! as you open them, is still a great activity. With different variations, you can have your baby laughing all the time. |
Variation 1: |
Try playing peek-a-boo with your child's favorite toys. His teddy bear playing peek-a-boo is sure to delight him. This also helps by alieving a little bit of the separation anxiety that he may start to exhibit. He will know that things are still there even when he can't see them. Variation 2: Hide an item under a blanket and let him find it. He will love that he was able to find it himself and will play by himself with ease. You can have fun watching him discover his hidden treasure |
My Infant.. |
My infant loves to find his own hidden item. He can play alone for 10-15 minutes, which allows me to have a few minutes to sit and relax. A rare treat for a mommy of a 6-month-old. Switching out the toy without him knowing it is a great way to surprise him. |
