Development |
Your 5-month-old is finally starting to learn that he is his own person. He is understanding that his body is connected, that he can make his hands and feet move. He now knows that he can control his movements and will be using that control to grab, shake, and mouth everything within his reach. Make this time more fun and enriching for him by doing the following activity. |
Activity |
Ever wonder what you can do with all those old baby formula cans? How about those 4 oz bottles now that he has moved on to 8 oz? If he is eating baby food, you can probably find empty baby food bottles lying around. You can make great toys for your baby with all those leftover items. Put different things in each container and make sure to completely seal it. Some great fillers are beans, pasta, coins. Please make sure that that the object is completely sealed so that baby can't open and choke on the items. He will love to pick up the different items and shake them to see what type of sounds that they make. Knowing that his motion, the shaking, causes a noise will teach him about cause and effect. Grabbing the shaker will work on his motor skills. |
Try It Out |
My 5-month-old definitely has his favorites. His old 4 oz bottles filled with pasta makes a rain-like sound that almost seems to sooth him. While he can't quite grasp it completely by himself, he is trying harder and shows his favor for that particular combination. |
