How can I bond with my partner while I am pregnant?

By Mary Sharman, edHelperBaby

Question
How can I bond with my partner while I am pregnant?

There are many ways that you can grow closer to your partner during the pregnancy and birth of your child. You know your partner better than anyone else does so you can chose activities that best suit his personality.

Try quiet mediation or devotion time. You could sit together quietly and pray or meditate. Write down your concerns about the pregnancy for the week and then release them during this time. Talk abut possible solutions, if there are any, and end your time together with a time of holding each other. This would be the time for me to have my daily cry as I hold my husband and thank God for my life.

Read a special book about pregnancy and childbirth together. It will help to ease your anxiety if your spouse knows what you are going through weekly or even daily. Reading a book about parenting could also be a good idea for planning future strategies. This will help you to feel that you are on the same team and you are not going through this alone.

Exercising with your mate could also create a wonderful bonding time. Mates are often encouraged to attend prenatal yoga because many of the poses could be used during the labor process. If your loved one is with you then he can remind you which positions will help ease back pain. Water aerobics is another activity that could be fun and beneficial. Just having that person there to encourage you to do another lap or paddle for a few more minutes can make all the difference.

Spending time with each other does not have to be boring. There are many ways to enjoy each other and learn through the experience of pregnancy. Take time to formulate a list of things you think would be fun and show them to your mate. Chances are they will not only want to do them, but may be even offer a few ideas of their own.
