Is it possible to avoid stretch marks?

Is it possible to avoid stretch marks?

Stretch marks are caused when the collagen and the elastin in the skin are stressed, resulting in tears that look like red or white streaks. There are a lot of products that claim to prevent them however, there is no scientific proof that they work. Recent studies show that women who drink plenty of water, exercise regularly and do not gain more than the recommended weight during pregnancy have fewer stretch marks. Doctors also recommend that pregnant women should massage their belly and thighs with body oil to keep it moist and help prevent stretching. I used Neutrogena Body Oil and it worked pretty well. It has a pleasant smell and is not greasy. If you do have stretch marks then it is recommended that you see your dermatologist and investigate laser or light therapy if you want to get rid of them.
