What can I do to relieve sore hips and back?
That basketball belly is causing your center of gravity to shift more and more every day. This means back muscles have to work harder to maintain posture, which can cause pain, especially toward the end of your pregnancy. The hormone Relaxin, which loosens pelvic bones to prep for labor, can spark joint pain near the hips.
The best ways to deal with the pain could include splurging on a prenatal massage. It can reduce knots and boost circulation, which will help the back muscles recover faster.
Stretching and prenatal yoga also work for similar reasons. Slow deep bends from the hips, as though you are trying to touch your toes (do this sitting down later in pregnancy) and cat/cows - a yoga pose in which you get on all fours and curl your back like a cat and then inward like a cow's. I have found that this stretch really helps and I do it all throughout the day when I feel my back tightening up.
