What items should I make sure I have when stocking my nursery?

Question
What Items should I make sure I have when stocking my nursery?

Making a list of last minute items that you will need before baby comes home will help you feel prepared for any situation. Below is a list of items that you will find extremely handy in the days after your baby comes home.

Gas drops-My husband and I learned the hard way that you should have these on hand. Mylicon Drops were the best. Other people will recommend grip water but it is the same thing in my opinion.

Mitts to cover their hands-Babies have very furtive motions and will draw blood scratching their little faces.

Gowns-These are really great for easy access at night when you are sleepy. It is also gentle on the belly button before the stump falls off.

Swaddling Blankets-Babies love to be swaddled and it soothes them when they are feeling insecure. It reminds them of the womb!

One set of Dr. Brown's bottles-These were recommended  by our pediatrician's office when our daughter had a bad bout of gas at 3-weeks-old. They are a little pricey but they really work quite well. The only downfall is if they tip over, the milk will spill out. The special feature is the many small parts inside that help with removal of gas.

A bottle of alcohol and cotton swabs/antibiotic ointment-This is for the belly button stump and circumcision site. We placed right near the changing table and every time we changed our daughter we swabbed her bellybutton. The antibiotic ointment would be for circumcision treatment. That should be done at least twice a day.

Tons of batteries, all sizes-check your swing, monitor and anything portable that you use daily, because when that baby comes home you will not be leaving for a while. My husband taped an extra set of batteries to the back of our swing so I would not even have to go look for a new set! Put them in a central location or tape them to the item if you can.

Interesting books and magazines for Mom-Newborns sleep a lot. If you have finished all your chores and you have taken a good nap then you need something to do. I bought a new book before my daughter was born and read every time she went to sleep. That way I felt like I was not wasting good time.

Infant size finger nail clippers- Not all babies like wearing the mitts mentioned previously, and this will help keep them from scratching their face

Being prepared when baby comes home is priceless, and will give you a greater sense of control and comfort.
